Text Bank in a Box

We’re not currently able to help support texting events, but if you join our Facebook and Slack communities we’ll let you know when opportunities are available!

6 Fun Ideas!

The Classic

Want to host a virtual texting party with your friends? The Classic is a great place to get started! If you’ve done phone banking or postcard parties, just swap it up for texting. This is a great option with your local community or activism group. When you’re ready, sign up, and check out our checklist for hosting.

Happy Hour

Turn a virtual happy hour into a gathering to help get Democrats elected! This is a great option for folks who have texted before so you can just fire up Spoke and don’t need to present training! When you’re ready, sign up, and check out our checklist for hosting.

Lunch Bunch

Save the chit-chat for the water cooler! Grab your teammates (virtually – we don’t want anyone getting COVID-19), order lunch, and camp out in a virtual conference room to eat together and text to help elect Democrats before you get back to work. Socialize, take a break from work, and do something impactful! When you’re ready, sign up, and check out our checklist for hosting.

Pizza Party

Grab your friends, order some pizzas, and throw on a good movie to have in the background. Have a low-key, sweatpants-suggested, virtual or socially-distanced Saturday evening to help get Democrats elected. When you’re ready, sign up, and check out our checklist for hosting.

Brunch Club

Gather your friends, break out the mimosas, and stock up on coffee: a weekend brunch is a great time to get together (virtually or physically with social distancing), catch up, and text to help get Democrats elected. When you’re ready, sign up, and check out our checklist for hosting.

Power Hour

Swap up your pre-game routine. Get your buddies together and do a Power Hour of texting to reach hundreds of voters and help get Democrats elected. When you’re ready, sign up, and check out our checklist for hosting.

FAQ

How do I train my attendees to text?

We recommend sending our new texter training to your attendees before the event. However, to help folks with no background knowledge, it’s a good idea to share your screen and walk them through the process of requesting texts and sending replies. If you signed up to host using our sign-up form and indicated that you need help training your group, we will make sure to have someone available to assist.

How do I know which campaign we will be texting for?

Because of the way Movement Labs plans our campaigns, we don’t always know exactly which campaigns will be available on a given date. You can check our schedule at https://movementlabs.com/text/ to get a sense of what kind of work we have coming up. You can let your attendees know that the texting will be focused either on voter registration, Census work, or another crucial campaign to elect Democrats on November 3rd.

How do I make sure texts will be available for my group?

With the exception of very large groups, there is no process for reserving texts specifically for your event. You and your attendees should simply log into Spoke at the same time and request texts! Our staff is working to make sure there are campaigns available at any given time during texting hours, especially if we know a text bank is coming up.

How will I know how many texts we’ve sent once it’s over?

Unfortunately, it would be too difficult for us to keep track of this for each text bank. However, we encourage you to keep track of this on your own! One potential way is for each attendee to post in the Zoom chat how many texts they sent before signing off. Then, you can add them up so you know how many people your group reached. Feel free to let everyone know how many people you texted in the #events channel of Slack!

Can my attendees continue texting after the text bank?

Absolutely! We are looking to recruit as many volunteers as possible to help us stop Trump and elect Democrats in November. You should let your attendees know that they can always sign in and text, regardless of whether they’re at a text bank. They can also join our Slack community or Facebook group for daily updates on campaigns.
