The Movement Labs Social Media Team works diligently every day to combat right-wing disinformation and amplify Democrats online, striving to build a stronger and more connected Democratic community both online and offline. Our mission is to uplift the causes, issues, topics, and people you care about while harnessing the power of social media to improve voter turnout, engagement, and Democratic outcomes. We place specific emphasis on Democratic organizing and issues that are local, focusing on the County, District, and State levels, in that order, to create a lasting impact in our communities.
We accomplish these goals via Team Actions that take approximately 30 seconds to 3 minutes each, on average, to complete. All Team Actions contain step-by-step instructions and are designed to be easily completed by a beginner!
Q: I’m not very skilled with social media, will that be a problem as part of the Team?
A: Absolutely NOT. Beginners are 100% welcome here! Most of our Teammates start with very little social media experience or confidence. You will learn a lot, over time, through our Team Actions.
Q: Will the Team help me amplify a specific candidate for elected office?
A: As a Team, we will support Democratic organizing at every available opportunity, which might include sharing candidate information. We will NOT denigrate ANY Democrat as part of our activities, and we do NOT show favoritism to specific candidates. If they are running for office as a Democrat, we are supportive.
Q: Why is social media amplification important for Democrats?
A: While many online resources and information sources exist for Democrats, many of them place more emphasis on highlighting Republican opponents and actions to help galvanize the Democratic base. While this is an effective way to fundraise and motivate people to action, it does nothing to make the voting public aware of the good work Democrats are doing every single day. The Movement Labs Social Media Team works to highlight Democratic activity, news of interest, and most importantly, volunteer and action opportunities for Democrats.
Q: What does a Team Action look like?
A: Glad you asked! Here is an example of a basic “Content Share Assignment” from our Team! We give step-by-step instructions with every assignment!
